INFORMATION ON PURCHASING A SEMFestival pass The SEMFestival pass gives you entry to Stockholm Early Music Festival 2023.  In the German Church, holders of festival passes can choose a dedicated place (same place for all evening concerts) within rows 5-6-7 in the A-section. At the  Musikaliska Concert Hall you will be assigned a seat after arrival, within the SEMFestivalpass-sector. At SEMF's other arenas, there are no numbered seats. We kindly ask SEMFestival passholders to show up no less than 15 minutes before the concert!

HOW DO I BUY MY SEMFestival pass? You can buy the festival pass by clicking on the ’Buy ticket’ button to the right. Your printed electronic ticket can then be exchanged for a physical SEMFestival pass at SEMF's ticket office in Gildenhaus, adjacent to the German church which is open from 1 pm during the festival week 1-6 June. You can also order your SEMFestival pass by calling 072-224 42 42 during SEMF's phone hours, weekends and Tuesdays at 10 am -12 noon and Thursdays at 1-3 pm. You will then receive an invoice by mail. After payment, you will be able to pick up your physical SEMFestival pass at SEMF's ticket office.

SEMFestival pass PRICE AND VALIDITY The SEMFestival pass costs 2 590 SEK. A printed copy of SEMF's festival programme book is included in the price! Please note that the number of festival passes is limited and that the pass is valid for all events except the Early Late Night Concert and BabyBaroque. NOTE! Regarding Terpsichore, the pass only applies to the performance on Monday 5 June at 8 pm.

PS: You can of course also buy individual tickets to your favorite concerts!

NEW! CHILD TICKET  This year SEMF offers a new specific ticket for children between 3 and 15 years old for concerts in the German Church, the Finnish Church and at Musikaliska. The ticket costs only 120 SEK and is valid in all sections except the SEMFestivalpass section.

EARLY EVANESCENCE

Hologram

A 3D audiovisual installation, inspired by both the Spanish 16th century vihuela repertoire and the warm and introspective timbre of this instrument. In the historic Palmsteds’ Well on Stortorget in Gamla Stan, a graphic illusion dances to the intimate inflections and emotions of early music. Welcome to experience a three-dimensional dialogue between music and image!

Peder Bjurman, is an artist, writer and director who in his performances often blends the tragical with the poetic or comic. Ricardo Atienza is a sound artist, Researcher, PhD Architect as well as senior lecturer in Sound Art at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design, Stockholm. Johannes Ferm Winkler is a video artist with specialized knowledge in video scenography, having a broad experience of working with theater, performing arts, and film.

XXII Stockholm Early Music Festival 2023 is inaugurated. Welcome!  

This year, Stockholm Early Music Festival is pleased to present Focus Early Music Spain, which means that several artists and music on the programme come from the Iberian Peninsula. The initiative is being carried into effect in collaboration with the Spanish Embassy and Instituto Cervantes.

N.B.! Participation during the opening ceremony requires a valid ticket for the opening concert at 8 pm.

¡Que viva España! The XXII Stockholm Early Music Festival opens with exuberant baroque zarzuela music by José de Nebra, which will probably be heard in Sweden for the first time! A selection from this exciting 18th-century operetta genre, where traditional Spanish folklore meets theatre music, will be performed in concert by two soprano soloists and the ensemble Los Elementos, which, under the direction of the young Spanish talent Alberto Miguelez Rouco, is currently enjoying a meteoric rise in Europe.

Sing, listen and dance together with your child in this concert hour with music by Vivaldi, Händel, Dowland et al. Heidi Rohlin Westin is a freelance musician and recorder teacher and Alexander Lundberg is an organist and choirmaster trained in Malmö and Paris.

Final concert of the Nordic-Baltic competition for young musicians.

In co-operation with NORDEM (Nordic Early Music Network). The excitement is building up! The finalists of NORDEM's seventh competition for young early music ensembles perform in front of a jury and an audience. Discover the future rising stars of this genre! After the concert, the jury deliberates for 30 minutes, selects and presents the winner.

The internationally renowned Belgian top ensemble B´Rock follows the fascinating composer Claudio Monteverdi on his life's journey to Flanders, close on the heels of an emerging bridge between Renaissance and Baroque. The internationally renowned baroque duo Anna Paradiso and Dan Laurin together with  friends, are rediscovering two exciting Swedish music collections, "Musikaliskt Tidsfördrif" and "Skaldestycken satte i musik", published for more than 40 years by Olof Åhlström. The repertoire was sung and played in domestic settings but later fell into oblivion.

The seminar is part of a three-year research project funded by the Swedish Research Council and conducted at the Royal College of Music.

Ensalada - Spanish for "salad" - is a kind of 16th century potpourri of polyphonic, secular vocal music that mixes languages, dialects and light-hearted popular nonsense songs. Freshness, expressiveness and stage presence are the hallmarks of Cantoría, a young vocal ensemble specializing in Iberian Renaissance polyphony.  Music by Matero Flecha, el Viejo.

With their extensive international careers, the sopranos Helena Ek and Anna Friman have a broad common repertoire ranging from early music to folk music.

In this exciting concert, follow the development of the Spanish guitar from 1500-1700; from the publication of the first vihuela book, El Maestro, by Luys Milán (1536) to the publication of Instruccion de Música sobre Guitarra Española, by Gaspar Sanz (1697).

José Miguel Moreno is unanimously recognised as one of today's leading specialists in historical plucked string instruments, such as the vihuela, Renaissance and Baroque guitar, Renaissance and Baroque lute, theorbo and classical-romantic guitar.

I am the madness, the one who gives pleasure to the world - the programme highlights and reconstructs typical 17th century Spanish dances and melodies: folías, zarabandas and jácaras - a musical world where passion, jealousy, love, sadness are ever present. Raquel Andueza is an internationally recognised Spanish singer and her award-winning ensemble La Galania has developed into one of Spain's most significant early music ensembles.

World première for a choreography of "Terpsichore" by German composer Michael Praetorius 1571-1621!  

Terpsichore, referring to the muse of dance is a compendium of more than 300 instrumental dances. It is Praetorius´ most widely known and recorded work today as well as his solely surviving secular work. 

Choreography: Patrik Sörling. NB! Performed at EARLY MUSIC SWEDEN/Musikaliska Kvarteret, Stora scen, Nybrokajen 11.

From performances and recordings of historically informed music to research and preservation efforts, the field of early music is constantly evolving. This session offers insights into the many festivals and projects currently taking place across the continent and examine the important role of international collaboration in this context.

Adèle Fourcade is the General Secretary of REMA (European Early Music Network), with headquarters in Paris, France.

An extraordinary duo of baroque experts who venture on J S Bach's sonatas with unprecedented intensity and bravura!

Festival finale: Gustav Vasa's appointment King of Sweden on 6 June 1523 is pompously celebrated with voices, organ and trombones - with festive sounds from his grandson Sigismund III's magnificent chapel in Vilnius! Canto Fiorito, led by Rodrigo Calveyra, soon became Lithuania's most dynamic and internationally recognised early music ensemble - here in collaboration with singers from the Swedish Ensemble Villancico. Works by Scacchi, Pekiel, Pacelli, Cato and Stadlmayer.

In collaboration with the Lithuanian Cultural Attaché in Sweden, Finland and Denmark. Supported by the Lithuanian Culture Institute.
