    »War and Peace« is the motto of the Hamburg International Music Festival 2024, with Hamburg’s orchestras and top-class international guests once again putting together a varied programme over five weeks for the glittering season finale.

    : NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra / Thomas Hampson / Alan Gilbert

    The International Music Hamburg opens with what Alan Gilbert calls the »Big Bang of Modernism«, Charles Ives’ Fourth Symphony. In keeping with the motto »War and Peace«, works such as Schönberg’s choral piece »Peace on Earth« will be performed.

    Elisabeth Leonskaja has been performing on the world's great concert stages for half a century and is a true piano legend. Now she presents all of Johannes Brahms' piano sonatas, which encompass the richness of sound of entire symphonies.

    : Elbphilharmonie Summer

    Summer, sun, beaches ... and the Elbphilharmonie! Whether symphony orchestra, jazz, pop or world music: at the end of August, the summer festival invites you to a colourful mix of concerts in the Grand Hall. A short trip that is always well worth it!

    : Arditti Quartet Marathon

    When it comes to exciting, cutting-edge music, the Arditti Quartet has been number one worldwide for 50 years. To mark their anniversary, they present their hits of contemporary music and talk about the avant-garde – happy birthday, Arditti!

    : Sitkovetsky Trio / Pablo Barragán

    Pablo Barragán is one of the shooting stars on the clarinet and, together with the Sitkovetsky Trio, will present Messiaen’s »Quartet for the End of Time« after a prelude with Debussy and Ravel – a French evening that gets under your skin!

    : ADG7 – Korean Folk-Pop

    The South Korean group ADG7 presents itself at concerts as »the best band in the world«. Colourful outfits and cheerful music between traditional sounds and folk-pop convey the hope for peace between the north and south of the country.

    Four concerts with some of the top soloists of our time: stars like Antoine Tamestit, Alexandre Kantorow and exciting all-star ensembles perform masterpieces of chamber music in the intimate setting of the Laeiszhalle Recital Hall.

    : Pierre-Laurent Aimard & Symphoniker Hamburg

    Pierre-Laurent Aimard is one of the best pianists of our time and is recognised for his subtle playing. With the Symphoniker Hamburg, he plays Bartók's Second Piano Concerto, which invites to virtuoso music-making.

    : Panorama der Renaissance

    Music brings comfort – this is as true today as it was during the Thirty Years’ War in the 17th century. With viols, organ, harp and voice, soprano Dorothee Mields and the Hathor Consort present a sound panorama from Heinrich Schütz and contemporaries.
