Drottningholms Slottsteater

Festival 2022

Drottningholms Slottsteater, the Court Theatre at the World Heritage Drottningholm, opened in 1766. The theatre is the only 18th century theatre in the world with its original stage machinery still in use. We perform opera, and give family performances, concerts and guided tours, always with a touch of the 18th century.

Il Giustino by Antonio Vivaldi
6-20 August
The opera premiered at the Teatro Capranica in Rome in 1724 and this is the first time it will be performed in Sweden.

- This is an opera with incredibly beautiful music, and with George Petrou as director and conductor, we will have a Baroque abundance. Our unique stage will of course play one of the main roles. The audience will have an exceptional experience this summer.

Anna Karinsdotter, Artistic and Managing director

Salle des machines - an anniversary evening
19 August
The theatre was re-opened 100 years ago, in 1922, after a century of oblivion. Tonight we celebrate with French and Italian festivity music, dance and the stage machinery in action!

Musical pastime
10 September
A unique concert with an unknown and fascinating chapter in the Swedish music history: making music at home and the “feminine repertoire” from the 18th and 19th centuries. Anna Paradiso, fortepiano, and Dan Laurin, flutes, invite us to a glittering musical salon with Anna Maria Friman-Henriksen, song and Ann Wallström, baroque violin.

Skönheten och Odjuret - Beauty and the Beast
15-22 May
A poetic family performance based on Grétry's opera Zémire et Azor. Music, acting and dancing.

Drottningholm is within easy reach of the centre of Stockholm, and is well served by public transport.

Tickets are available online at www.dtm.se

Guided tours of the theatre

Follow our multi-lingual guides on a tour that will take you into the public rooms surrounding the auditorium, into the auditorium where the magic of the stage and the splendid decorations will come to life, and end up in the beautiful Déjeuner Salon looking out over the English garden. You will hear the sound of the thunder box and the wind machine or experience an aria and a famous orchestra piece, if there are rehearsals! A visit to Drottningholms Slottsteater will convey impressions of theatre life in the 18th century and give a better understanding of our living cultural heritage.
